Young Guns has been awarded the title of “Club of the Year” in the Perth Division of Toastmasters International. The award was accepted by Bill Hewitt at the recent change over dinner in Perth.
In its past year, Young Guns has achieved many milestones, leading to it receiving the status of “Select Distinguished” club, no easy feat for a fortnightly club in its very first year. Young Guns members Tri Suseno, Bill Hewitt and Ian Poustie have also been pivotal in setting up several new clubs in Perth, including Young Professionals, Netmasters and the Marketers Club, as well as reviving The A-Team. Tri Suseno and Bill Hewitt did very well in inter-club competitions, with Tri taking out the Perth title and going on to represent Young Guns in Lilydale, Victoria.
And that’s only our first year.
Congratulations to all the members of Young Guns. We’ve always known it was Perth’s most vibrant and enthusiastic Toastmasters Club, but it’s nice to have it officially recognised.
If you haven’t experiences a Young Guns meeting, please come along as a guest and see what you think yourself.

Tri Suseno a Young Gun Toastmaster entertains, inspires and scoops the pool!

Last night was the Perth Division International and Evaluation contest. Both contests were fantastic and the great news for our club was Tri was a competitor and he excelled himself and won the International. The title of his speech “How to fail in Life” is a message for all of us, don’t do the stuff that will make you fail! The speech was entertaining, informative and delivered with Tri’s flair. If you haven’t heard it you are missing out!
The runner up was Al Tassone from Curtin and he excelled himself. The title of his speech “Just Smile” is a reflection on a period of Al’s life while he was an apprentice chef and one of his most cherished lessons.
Well done Tri and Al on great efforts!
In the Evaluation Contest Glaucia from Curtin was the Test Speaker. Glaucia’s speech title was “What’s in a Flag” (It was her Project 8 Speech) The material was well researched and then presented in Glaucia’s clear, confident, organised style. Glaucia as always like Al smiled and engaged the audience throughout the presentation. Well done and a big thanks to Glaucia for standing up and helping out with the contest and
allowing the Evaluating Contestants compete!!
Tri gave a very well delivered thoughtful, analytical and motivational evaluation to win this contest as well. I thought it was fantastic, as did the Judges and Glaucia. The Judges and Glaucia couldn’t be wrong!!!
The runner up was Pascale Amberville-Colby who delivered his evaluation in his unforgettable style and was rewarded with second place. Pascale also coordinated pulled the contest together and had one of the largest
contingents of TM Volunteers seen at a contest.
All the contestants performed with distinction and will be mentioned in the full report.
(Thanks to Bill Hewitt for this report)
